Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck ‘s 15-year-old daughter Seraphina Rose introduced themselves as Fin Affleck at a funeral service last weekend

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s 15-year-old, formerly Seraphina Rose, made their first official appearance under a new name, Fin, at a memorial service for Jennifer’s father last weekend.

Wearing a black pantsuit and buzz-cut hairstyle, Fin introduced themselves by their new name before reading a bible verse to the congregation at Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston, West Virginia on Saturday.

Fin has been pictured with their new short cropped hair as early as February this year, but the funeral was the first time the top actors’ kid introduced themselves in public with a new name.

The memorial service, streamed live on Facebook, was for Jennifer Garner’s father William Jack Garner, who died a week earlier age 85.

Following William’s other grandchildren, Fin introduced themselves at the church lectern saying: ‘Hello my name is Fin Affleck,’ then read Chapter 16, Verse 8 from the Book of Proverbs: ‘Better is a little with righteousness, than a large income with injustice.’

Fin’s mom Jennifer announced Billy’s death on Instagram in a heartbreaking post last Monday, saying he passed away ‘peacefully’.

‘We are grateful for Dad’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength. For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for the way he invented the role of all in, ever patient girl dad. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership and faith,’ she wrote.

Fin is Garner and Affleck’s middle child, with an older sister Violet Anne, 18, and younger brother Samuel, 15.

Their parents split in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2018, but maintain a friendly relationship.

In 2022 Affleck married singer Jennifer Lopez, whose 16-year-old daughter Emme Maribel Muniz uses gender-neutral pronouns and has become close with Fin as a step-sibling.

The two were pictured together on a Los Angeles street with Affleck on February 12, with Fin sporting an eye-catching temporary pink hair dye.

The first hints of their new name came a few days earlier when Fin was pictured hugging mom Jennifer goodbye at their school bus stop in Brentwood, LA. In the photo the name ‘Fin’ can be seen embroidered on their backpack.

The teen has had a boyish haircut for years and has regularly been pictured in more masculine clothing.

The 15-year-old is just one of several celebrity kids who are finding their identities.

JLo first publicly introduced Emme’s pronouns to a crowd at the LA Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala where they both performed in June 2022.

‘[The last time] we performed together was in a big stadium like this, and I ask them to sing with me all the time but they won’t,’ Lopez said onstage.

‘So, this is a very special occasion, because they’re very, very busy and booked and pricey. They cost me when they come out, but they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time.’

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis’ daughter Ruby came out as transgender in 2021.

‘I’m in support of my daughter Ruby. I’m having them be a they/them,’ Curtis said on the Today show last year.

‘I’m going to just call them them. They/them, and they are doing great, they’re settling in. I just — in my life, I never saw it in a million years that I’d have [these] couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.’

Former Miami Heat NBA player Dwyane Wade told the Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2020 that he had taken up new ‘roles and responsibilities’ since his daughter Zaya came out as transgender.

He said he and wife Gabrielle Union try to ‘figure out as much information as we can to make sure that we give our child the best opportunity to be her best self.’

‘We are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re proud allies as well,’ he said.

Sigourney Weaver revealed in December 2022 that her and husband Jim Simpson’s 34-year-old child identifies as nonbinary, and Charlize Theron hinted at her daughter Jackson’s status in December 2019 when she told Pride Source of the ‘importance’ of getting her pronouns right.

‘My daughter’s story is really her story, and one day, if she chooses, she’ll tell her story,’ Theron told the publication.

There has previously been speculation that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Shiloh, 17, was transitioning genders after her parents’ made comments about her gender identity.

Jolie, 41, told Vanity Fair in 2010 when Shiloh was four years old: ‘She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. So it’s a suit with a tie and a jacket and slacks, or a tracksuit. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.’

Pitt, 60, told Oprah Winfrey two years earlier that his then-two-year-old daughter wanted to be called ‘John’.

‘[Shiloh] only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So it’s a Peter Pan thing,’ he said. ‘So we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want…’ – ‘John. I’m John.’ And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’ So, you know, it’s just that kind of stuff that’s cute to parents and it’s probably really obnoxious to other people.’

Shiloh was pictured on red carpets in masculine outfits during her earlier teen years, but more recently has been seen wearing dresses – including her mom’s Dior dress that she donned for a London premiere of Jolie’s movie Eternals on October 27, 2021.
