Zayn Malik reveals his daughter Khai, 3, has a ‘natural’ music ability as he details life with her on Pennsylvania farm as he co-parents with Gigi Hadid
Zayn Malik has praised his three-year-old daughter Khai’s ‘natural ability’ when it comes to music as he shared an insight into his life with the tot.
The singer, 31, said is looking forward to seeing how her talents develop as she gets older because she already picks up lyrics and chord sequences very quickly.
He told L’Officiel magazine: ‘Khai has a lot of natural ability herself already. I know, it sounds ridiculous because she’s three, but her retention for language, especially when it’s formatted in a musical sense to her, has been amazing.
‘She’ll remember every lyric of every song that she likes. She remembers chord progressions and notes. She can do runs that have, like, three, four notes already.
The former One Direction singer explained Khai, who he shares with former partner Gigi Hadid, is already aware of his own musical career.
‘Zayn said his daughter doesn’t come to the studio, but she does understand that her ‘Baba’ is a singer. Baba is a nickname for father in some languages, and translates to father in the Arabic, Persian and Shona languages
The star revealed that if she hears someone singing on the radio she will often ask people around her if her ‘Baba is singing’.
Zayn lives on a farm in rural Pennsylvania, close to where Gigi’s mother Yolanda Hadid lives, and he enjoys spending time outdoors with Khai.
He said: ‘I’m quite an outdoorsy person – I did fall in love with the landscapes and serenity. You get a lot of time to really think about things. And when I found out that my partner at the time was pregnant, I pretty quickly made up my mind that this would be a great place to raise a child because there’s so much for her to do here.’
Detailing what they get up to on the farm, Zayn revealed they do the gardening, camping and fishing, where they are able to create some ‘amazing memories’.
He said: ‘I’m just trying to keep her grounded and enjoying the earth, rather than all the noise that comes with it.’
Zayn released his new single What Am I on Friday March 15.
It came as he officially announced his brand new album called Room Under The Stairs earlier this month.
He penned in his Instagram announcement: ‘ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS 17.05.2024 PRE-ORDER FRIDAY’, along with a series of quirky illustrations.
Before the announcement, Zayn wiped his Instagram page and posted a single Reel – as he prepared his fans for his self-penned fourth studio album.
He shared a selection of visuals in the video, as well as music and a voiceover, but wrote no caption with it.
He said in the teaser: ‘I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being – my ambitions, my fears – and for them to have a connection with that.
‘And that’s why it’s so raw, you know, it’s just me writing this. I didn’t want anyone else to be in between me and the music, and the music and the people listening to it.’
Zayn worked with nine-time Grammy Award-winning country music producer Dave Cobb on the upcoming album.
