During a memorable on-air blunder, Luke Bryan flipped a table and shattered glass as Katy Perry screamed and leapt of of her chair in surprise during the season premiere of American Idol.

The star-studded American Idol judges had a bit of a mishap on-air as country star Luke actually shattered glass spooking his co-star Katy after an unforgettable audition. Sunday evening the 47-year-old accidentally bumped the side table sitting next to him which caused the table to fall over shattering his glass of water, causing a loud commotion on stage.

Ryan Seacrest himself took to X, formerly Twitter, posted a gif of Katy’s reaction and joked that contestant Meggie Lyer’s performance caused the blunder following her jaw-dropping performance covering the song I Can’t Make You Love Me. The famous 49-year-old host wrote: “Meggie Iyer is bringing the house down.”

Other fans joined in showing their love for Meggie. One viewer wrote: “Meggie could be a superstar!!! She’s not only going to go to Hollywood, but she’s going to win it all!!! LET’S GO MEGGIE!!! She’s very sweet!!!” Another added: “Meggie Iyer slipped right into this melody. Simple delivery with good energy and a little cry in her voice. Love her sound. That falsetto riff blew me away and then she belted. Great way to show many facets of her voice.” And a third wrote: “Meggie!!!! Hands down my favorite so far!!!

Ahead of her audition, the 19-year-old singer shares she went to the same high school as American Idol judge Luke. The aspiring singer is a current student at Indiana University. Prior to her performance, she took to social media sharing her excitement over the chance to showcase her talent on stage.

In a LinkedIn post, she wrote: “Having the opportunity to showcase my talent on such a renowned platform was both exhilarating and humbling.” She continued: “My journey through the audition process allowed me to connect with fellow musicians, grow as an artist, and learn from music legends like Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.”

This season’s competition will mark Katy’s final season as a judge on the show. During the reality series, Meggie and others will compete against talented amateur singers across Los Angeles, Nashville, Tennessee as they battle it out on-stage and are coached from Hollywood’s best. At the end of the show, the crowned winner will be met with a record deal including a major label and management contract.
