RISING STAR
Camila, who hails from Venezuela but now lives in Miami, Florida, is the daughter of Juan Pablo and his ex-girlfriend, Carla Rodriguez.
The 14-year-old high school freshman auditioned for American Idol during season 22, episode 5 of the series.
Juan Pablo joined his daughter during her audition, watching her sing Rabia by Venezuelan artist Joaquina.
Katy told Camila, “You’ve got a good voice. It sounds a little young,” following the 14-year-old’s performance.
She added that Camila’s voice has “lots of personality” and is “very youthful,” but she was “looking for some of those notes that could come out and really compete with the other contestants.”
Luke stated, “Love your confidence. Love your personality. It’s very listenable. Your voice is — it’s very pop,” as he provided feedback.
“I think your biggest hurdle is the big high notes are still giving you a little bit of trouble. I mean, you’re so young. I just don’t know if it’s ready yet,” the country singer added.
“I agree with Luke a little bit here in terms of experience,” Lionel revealed during his turn.
Bryan interjected, “I think the right producer right now could take your voice and cut a hit album on you, right now.
“But, in this competition, I think you’re gonna get swallowed up a little bit.”
The judges then took their votes on whether Camila would make it to Hollywood.
Lionel gave Camila a “no,” stating that she needs time to develop.
Katy stated that she thought Camila had a “very accessible voice” that “needs a little bit of stretching” before giving the hopeful contestant the okay.
Luke admitted, “I wrote ‘no’ on my page, but then I told you the right producer could make you a hit song. So, I’m giving you a ‘yes’ just based on that because you’ve got a radio tone.”
As the judges approached Camila to give her the golden ticket, Katy reminded the singer, “Listen, you’ve got a lot of work cut out for you.”
Luke added, “You barely made it in,” before all their judges announced, “You’re going to Hollywood.”
