Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry bond over ‘ugly cry faces’ as reality star chimes in on Instagram snap of America Idol judges’ tearful moment

Katy Perry showed off her ‘ugly cry face‘ during an emotional moment at the end of Monday night’s American Idol… and found some support from Kim Kardashian.

Perry, 38, let the tears flow during the final performance of the new episode by 22-year-old singer Fire, whose duet partner Kaya Stewart (the daughter of Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart) fell ill and dropped out of the competition.

Perry asked the other competitors if anyone would perform with Fire, with 18-year-old Jayna Elise from Los Angeles joining Fire to sing Adam Lambert‘s What Do You Want From Me in a powerful performance.

When Fire herself was moved to tears, both Katy Perry and Lionel Richie broke down themselves in a powerful moment.

After the episode aired, Perry took to Instagram with a brief video captioned, ‘hi this is my ugly cry face. watch #idol now to get urs,’ which Kim Kardashian commented on: ‘We all have one.’

This season of American Idol threw a curveball at contestants, allowing them to pick their own duet partners, with Fire and Kaya Stewart forming a strong bond right away.

However, just before their performance, Kaya became ill and realized she couldn’t give 100% to the performance.

When both Fire and Stewart, 23, took the stage, Stewart delivered an announcement that surprised the judges and left Kaya alone on the stage.

‘I have a little announcement to make. I got sick at the beginning of Hollywood Week and I have been trying to push myself and keep going. During this performance, I got to work with Fire and it was such a great experience,’ Stewart told judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

‘She’s so talented and so incredible and we bonded so much but I realized I wasn’t able to give 100 percent. So, I’ve decided to not perform but Fire is going to perform and I’m really grateful that I got to be here and thank you guys but I’m not going to be performing,’ Stewart said, shocking the judges.

Perry asked if she would be leaving the show, Stewart said, ‘Yes. So me not performing today means I’m no longer going to be in the competition.’

Suddenly overcome with emotions, Stewart covered her mouth and quickly left the stage.

Perry asked Fire how she felt about Stewart not singing with her, and she was overcome with emotions.

‘I’m gonna start crying. Sorry. It’s been really stressful. You know, it was a lot of stress on me to learn a different arrangement and then just come out here, so yeah, I’m sorry,’ Fire said through tears.

Perry then asked other contestants to help out Fire, with 18-year-old Jayna Elise joining her on stage as the judges cheered her on.

‘Listen, Fire, you’re not gonna be abandoned anymore,’ Perry insisted, as her performance brought the judges to their feet.

When Fire broke down during the song and missed a verse, Jayna walked up and put an arm around her and picked up the slack, bringing both Perry and Richie to tears as Fire and Jayna finished the song together.

Even after the performance, Perry was wiping tears away before delivering an emotional speech.

‘Proud of you. You’re growing little by little. You can’t control a lot, but you can control yourself. And you can control your future. Thank you for standing up here and continuing to try. Thank you for swinging. Thank you for not forfeiting. Thank you for fighting. And in this moment, we get to control a little bit of your future. You’re going forward, Fire,’ Perry said, sending Fire through to the next round.

Kardashian had several ‘ugly cry face’ moments throughout her original E! series Keeping Up with the Kardashians that have become popular memes and GIFs.

The reality star has seemingly embraced her cry face moments, sharing her support for Perry on Instagram.
