Fans were able to spot that the pictures weren’t real with one major clue

MET Gala fans have been fooled after AI renderings of Rihanna and Katy Perry’s looks went viral on social media.

On the biggest night in fashion, pictures of the stars flooded the internet in abstract looks to reflect the Met Gala’s dress code, The Garden of Time.

However, fans were shocked to learn that the images of the singers were generated with AI.

Rihanna was last seen at the star-studded event in 2023, while Perry’s last attendance was in 2022. Neither attended the event this year.

In the AI renderings, Rihanna was pictured wearing a stunning cream dress that mirrored a forest setting with grass and flowers coming up her skirt and her train acting as a patch of grass with more pink flowers, according to the tweet posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

The top of the dress, however, was the star of the show as it was a large, mushroom-like jacket that branched out with tree branches and birds.

The star did not attend this year’s gala due to the flu, a source told People.

Perry was pictured in two looks one being a massive ballgown that, similar to Rihanna’s, mirrored a forest floor, according to the tweet.

The edge of the dress was made to look like grass or moss with flowers, as butterflies climbed up the tool of the gown to an ethereal corset.

In her second look, Perry took on the look of a forest warrior, according to the tweet.

The singer had what looked like wet hair with a pale complexion, paired with a tarnished metal corset with a key down the middle.

On the bottom of the look was a high-low skirt made with draping greenery and big white flowers.

Perry, however, revealed that she had skipped the event because she was working on new music, according to Pop Base.

‘THIS REAL OR AI?’

Fans initially questioned the star’s outfit choices on X, asking if they were real or fake.

“This real or AI,” a user asked.

“I saw like 2 dresses… now which one is real?” a commenter asked about Katy Perry.

Others immediately believed the pictures were genuine.

“Omggg? She understood the assignment,” a user said of Rihanna.

“My Riri does not disappoint,” wrote another.

“Never Misses, Never Stumbles, Definition Of Beauty, Charm And Class, Queen Riri Till Infinity,” a user wrote.

However, many people realized the images were the product of AI right away, with one user sharing how they connected the dots.

“You can see it’s fake from looking at the carpet,” they revealed.

This years carpet was cream with green and teal ombre creeping in from the edges.

The stair railings were castle-esque as they were decorated with green vines and white flowers.

‘BAN AI’

Some X users knew right away that the looks were made with AI and they slammed their creation.

“Today’s highlight: seeing 200,000+ people like an AI photo of Katy Perry thinking she’s at the Met Gala,” Kaleidoscope News posted.

“AI met gala looks should be a crime,” one shared.

“The amount of AI met gala pictures is crazy like ban the AI from general use already,” argued another.

Met Gala 2024 Theme

The theme of the 2024 Met Gala is The Garden of Time, which draws inspiration from the latest exhibition of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

“Ban AI. We all fell for that Katy Perry look. Lol,” a third laughed.

“Stop with the AI ugh, you will ruin her actual outfit presentation,” someone said about Rihanna’s look.

“This being AI just ruined my night,” a commenter said about Perry’s forest gown.

Another user couldn’t believe they had fallen for the fake image.

“Not me falling for this AI edit at first,” they wrote.

While another shared, “Wait. It’s AI-generated?! I got fooled.”

‘ADDED CONTEXT’

X has since put disclaimers on the tweets showing their ballgown dress.

The new alert said, “Readers added context they thought people might want to know.”

“This is either AI or digitally altered. Rihanna has, at the time of this post, not yet arrived at the Met Gala,” the message read on the tweet picturing Rihanna.

A similar message for Perry was written saying, “This image is fake. Katy Perry was not at the 2024 Met Gala and this image was most likely created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).”
