Her lyrics confidently touch on themes like sexuality, personal style, and her interpretation of female empowerment, offering a refreshing perspective. Megan credits her mother’s rap career and her time at Prairie View A&M University for shaping her journey to success. At PVAMU, she received encouragement from classmates, further fueling her passion for music.

Despite her burgeoning music career, Megan remains committed to her education. While touring extensively this year, she continued her studies at Texas A&M University. In November, she signed with 300 Entertainment, joining the ranks of artists like Young Thug and Tee Grizzley, a move that felt like a natural fit for her.

In a recent interview with Megan Thee Stallion during her visit to NYC, she discusses her upcoming mixtape Fever, her deep-rooted love for Houston, and her experiences as a woman in the hip-hop industry today.

Q: When did you start taking music and songwriting seriously? Did your time at Prairie View A&M University play a role in this?

Megan: I knew I wanted to be a rapper since I was about seven. When I was 18, I attended Prairie View, and during a casual gathering, I showcased my rap skills to some friends. That moment led to me posting a freestyle video on YouTube, which garnered attention on campus. From then on, I was known as Megan The Stallion, the rapper from Prairie View.

Q: As a Texas native, how does it feel to continue the legacy of legendary rappers like Pimp C?

Megan: Pimp C is my favorite rapper, and being from Houston, I carry on his legacy while adding my own twist. Houston is known for chopped n’ screwed music, and while I honor that tradition, I also aim to introduce the world to the new Houston sound. It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized alongside the legends from my city.

Q: How do you feel about being part of the current wave of female empowerment in hip-hop?

Megan: It’s an honor to be mentioned alongside the greats in the industry. My music resonates with people, especially women, and seeing them embrace my message of confidence and empowerment is incredible.

Q: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?

Megan: Patience is key. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but if you stay dedicated and focused, your time will come.

Q: Do you feel your music challenges traditional gender roles and empowers women to embrace their sexuality?

Megan: Absolutely. Just like men, women have the right to express themselves freely, including in matters of sexuality. My music reflects that confidence and empowers women to own their desires without apology.

Q: Who are some artists you’re currently listening to?

Megan: I’m a fan of Future, the Migos, and of course, myself. I also enjoy Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Maliibu Miitch, and Dom Kennedy.

Q: Can fans expect new music from you soon? What’s next for Megan Thee Stallion?

Megan: Yes, my new mixtape, Fever, drops in January. It’s a new persona for me, showcasing “Hot Girl Meg” in a different light. After the success of Tina Snow, fans can expect more of my energetic and confident style.

Q: How would you describe your personal style?

Megan: My style is all about confidence, sexiness, and energy.
