A Brief Background On ‘Sunday Service’
As The Shade Room previously reported, Latto’s ‘Sunday Service’ initially caused a stir on social media after the rapper teased a video snippet of the single earlier this year.
In January, Latto took to TikTok to share a video teasing the song.
Then, in February, while doing a live question and answer with fans, Ice Spice pointed out how a video of her was featured in the background of Latto’s video snippet, and she took offense, per The Shade Room.
“I’m in the back of your weak a** snippet. Like, that’s why I was confused. So I was like, ‘Wait a second, that’s me?’… I was like, ‘This has to be fake. This is AI.’ But b*****s be bold, so I was like, ‘Oh, we’re being bold today,” Ice Spice told fans.
A few days later, Latto appeared to shoot back at Ice Spice’s words by pulling up to the rapper’s native hood, the Bronx, and shooting the ‘Sunday Service’ music video, per The Shade Room.
A few days later, Latto appeared to add fuel to the fire by releasing the cover art for ‘Sunday Service.’ As The Shade Room previously reported, the graphic featured photos of female rappers such as Ice Spice, Lil’ Kim, Megan Thee Stallion, Sexyy Red, and others with their eyes crossed out.
Ultimately, on February 9, Latto returned to social media to clarify the song’s meaning and whether it was aimed as a diss toward Ice Spice and her fellow female emcees.
