The reality star posted a selfie on her Instagram Story while lying in bed wearing a silky black pajama set.
The TV personality had a surprised expression on her face with a soft smile and held a thumbs-up sign to the camera.
Kourtney went makeup-free and explained her evening in the caption.
“This filter is crazy and I just pounded a glass of breast milk because I feel sick,” she wrote, adding a sick emoji.
“Goodnight!”
Adult consumption of breast milk
A mother’s breast milk is full of nutritional benefits for infants as it contains the “perfect combination of proteins, fats, vitamins and carbohydrates
However, there are several studies online that suggest that breast milk might also be beneficial to adults as well.
According to one study conducted by the National Library of Medicine, breast milk had some unexpected benefits for adults.
The sugar molecules found in a mother’s breast milk could help prevent group B Streptococcus infections, such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bone and joint infections, per the CDC.
However, in a separate study completed by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, there are risks involved with consuming breast milk as an adult.
“Nutritionally, there is less protein in breast milk than other milks like cow’s milk. Chemical and environmental contaminants are known to make their way into breast milk, just like the food chain more broadly,” the study claimed.
“No scientific study has evidenced that direct adult consumption of human milk for medicinal properties offers anything more than a placebo effect.”
The study says breast milk “offers more promise at a component or stem cell level” rather than in a casual drinking setting.
BREAST MILK BENEFITS
A mother’s breast milk is full of nutritional benefits for infants as it contains the “perfect combination of proteins, fats, vitamins and carbohydrates” for a baby’s developmental period, per the American Pregnancy Association.
However, there are several studies online that suggest that breast milk might also be beneficial to adults as well, which could explain Kourtney’s use of the substance for her illness.
According to a study conducted by the National Library of Medicine, breast milk had some unexpected benefits for adults both topically and internally.
The review states that the sugar molecules found in a mother’s breast milk could help prevent group B Streptococcus infections.
This group includes pneumonia, meningitis, and bone and joint infections, per the CDC.
The researchers also boldly state that the molecules used could even replace antibiotics one day.
FAN BACKLASH
However, the results have received mixed reviews from the public, and even more so from Kourtney’s fans.
“The antibodies in your milk are already present in your body,” one ranted on Reddit in all caps after seeing her post.
“How else would they get in your milk! There are literally no benefits for you. You might have strep throat and your body is protecting your baby against you.
“Even giving your husband some of it would be pointless because you can just kiss and exchange antibodies,” they penned.
“As a mom who just weaned her babe off of milk…. that’s nasty,” a second agreed.
“Yeah it doesn’t work like that lol,” a third claimed.
“I wish people would understand you don’t have to post everything on social media cause godd**n. She could have ended that post a sentence early,” a fourth pleaded.
“People are sick and need help lol,” another ripped.
NURSERY NURSING
Kourtney, who welcomed three kids with her ex Scott Disick, Mason, Penelope, and Reign, and her youngest Rocky Thirteen last year, has been open about her choice to breastfeed.
Back in January, the Hulu star gave fans an inside glimpse into her home life since the birth of her newest addition.
Travis, 48, posted a video that seemed to be filmed by his daughter, Alabama Barker, who he shares with his ex-wife Shanna Moakler.
In the clip, Kourtney was sitting in a chair in the couple’s nursery, breastfeeding Rocky while her husband threw the baby’s diapers into a basket on the opposite side of the room.
The Poosh founder wore a pair of black matching Skims pajamas while nursing her newborn.
Meanwhile, Travis moved around the nursery of their lavish Los Angeles mansion and took several shots, basketball style.
He sported a sleeveless white cutoff tank with black denim jeans and a studded belt.
The drummer moved around and revealed Kourtney while using a baby face emoji to cover her breasts as she fed their child.
Travis missed the basket several times while trying to shoot the diapers, so he attempted to re-roll them to make his job easier.
When the rockstar dad finally made the shot, he celebrated by loudly cheering.
KOURTNEY’S MESSAGE
Kourtney recently opened up about her motherhood and the choice to breastfeed as a new mom.
The TV star posted a snap from her girl’s getaway to Turks and Caicos with her sisters, kids, and friends last week.
In the pic, the mother of four laughed joyfully while swimming in the beautiful Caribbean ocean.
Kourtney donned a skimpy black bikini, which allowed major sideboob to spill out, putting her cleavage on display.
She reshared the image on her Instagram Stories, writing a message directed at new moms.
“Dear new mommies, your body is beautiful at all stages. During pregnancy as we are glowing and growing, postpartum as we are healing and shrinking, and then that period I find the hardest as our bodies are still adjusting,” she penned.
“And if you’re breastfeeding, that’s a whole other part of it. I try to be kind to myself as my body finds a new normal. The pressure put on us to bounce back when everything is new and different isn’t realistic. Life is beautiful, you are beautiful. Just a little reminder (for me too;) XOXO,” she closed.
