KATY Perry has given her fans hope when it comes to her returning to American Idol in the future.

She did, however, give a warning to whoever is replacing her next season to “keep her seat warm.”

The American Idol judges – Katy, 39, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan – along with the show’s host, Ryan Seacrest, sat down for an interview with Good Morning America on Friday.

They talked about how the show has evolved over the past 22 seasons, following their dreams, and the talent that comes from Idol.

Towards the end of the interview, GMA correspondent Will Reeve asked Katy how she is feeling about leaving.

“Katy can you believe it’s been seven years and now you’ve announced it’s time to say goodbye?” Will, 31, asked her.

Katy answered right away with “For now.”

She went on to say that Idol has “healed her heart” and the she loved being on this journey with Lionel, 74, Luke, 47, and Ryan, 49.

‘YOU’RE IRREPLACEABLE’

After Katy announced that her departure wasn’t for good, Will asked her who she thinks would be a good fill-in judge.

“You’re irreplaceable, but what type of person would you hope the show picks?” the GMA correspondent asked.

Katy joked that it needs to be someone who can “put up with Luke and Lionel, that’s all.”

Lionel said that they will hold Katy’s spot as the Smile singer said they should “keep her seat warm.”

Fans have already given their opinion on who they want to replace Katy and names such as Idol alums Jordin Sparks and Tori Kelly have been thrown out as well as former judge Jennifer Lopez.

NEVER REALLY OVER

However, Katy shared the reason for her brief absence from the competition show.

“I feel so connected to America that I want to go out there again and sing and play music and hold their hands and tour,” she said.

“And bring my daughter and show her all of that stuff.”

Katy had her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, three-and-a-half, with her fiancee, Orlando Bloom, in 2020.

Although the singer had her PLAY residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, from December 2021 to April 2023, she hasn’t toured the world in over five years.

The mother-of-one released her latest album, Smile, in 2020, just days after giving birth to Daisy.

Between becoming a new mom and the Covid-19 pandemic, Katy did not get to tour that album.

Katy last toured in 2017 to 2018 on her Witness: The Tour for her fifth album of the same name.

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

It was in February that Katy revealed that she would not be on Idol next season.

She told fans on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio,” she told host Jimmy Kimmel, 56.

“So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.”

Katy stated that she loves Idol so much as the audience gasped.

She said that while it has connected her to the heart of America, she needs to “feel the pulse of her own beat.”

Another bombshell that Katy dropped was that her fellow judges didn’t know.

Jimmy asked her what Luke and Lionel thought of her leaving and she said they would “find out tonight.”

Now it appears that Katy is considering a comeback after her tour.

She has not yet announced KP6 or released a single for the new era.

The current season of American Idol airs on Sunday and Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
