In 2019, the singer endured the devastating loss of both her mother and grandmother within a few months.

A year later, she faced another traumatic incident when rapper and former friend Tory Lanez shot her in both feet following an argument.

‘Even though I went through a lot of bad things, it really made me have to spend time by myself, which I really appreciate,’ she told L’OFFICIEL. ‘I had to be by myself to figure out. I needed to step back and look at what I was doing.’

She continued: ‘When I got comfortable with myself, and being by myself, that’s when I started having a new appreciation for myself. Once I [started] trusting myself and being nicer to myself and setting boundaries, my self-love kept rising.’

The entertainer also got candid about her struggle with depression, admitting she didn’t want to ‘burden’ others with it.

‘When you are going through a depression or when you are going through sadness…you don’t want to put that on other people,’ she explained. ‘You don’t want to be the dark cloud of your friend group.’

She admitted she ‘got to a point’ where she couldn’t hide the depression anymore. ‘I was just like, “Forget this. I’m sad. What are we going to do about this?”‘

As for where she is now on the journey, Megan said, ‘I don’t want to be my old self anymore because I don’t think I was processing my feelings properly.’

She added: ‘I do have boundaries now. The way that I love myself is so different from the way that I did love myself.

‘I’m not doing things to make other people happy. I’m just all about Megan right now, and I love it. I hope that I can continue this way.’

In another candid moment, Megan revealed that her therapist advised her to channel her energy into exercise.

Initially, she used working out as a distraction from the challenges in her life. Over time, it became a coping mechanism, helping her to feel better both physically and mentally.

She noted that focusing on fitness allowed her to temporarily escape her worries and see positive results.

‘And then as I kept going, I started to see results; I started to feel better and I just kept it going because when I go and put my mind on something else, especially working out, I’m not worried about anything else but this,’ she added.

The rapper also opened up about her upcoming Hot Girl Summer Tour.

‘Well, this is the first time that we’ve got to have a Megan Thee Stallion tour,’ she explained.

'Even though I went through a lot of bad things, it really made me have to spend time by myself, which I really appreciate,' she told L¿OFFICIEL

‘So that’s what’s going to be different about this Hot Girl Summer altogether. You have never been able to come party with Megan Thee Stallion on a tour during Hot Girl Summer.

‘Now all the hot girls have a place to congregate and fellowship, and this is what we are about to do.’

The tour will kick off on May 14 in Minneapolis and make stops at several major cities including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston and many more.

Grammy-nominated artist GloRilla will serve as a special guest.
